Car, Truck, Ad Van, & Taxi Advertising Costs

There are a number of different forms of vehicle advertising, with widely varying costs and its effectiveness varying depending on the product and type of promotion.

Advertising on Cars

It generally costs £200-£400 per month to advertise on a car, the exact amount depending on the number of cars and the length of the campaign. This tends to work out at around £0.40-£0.55 per thousand impressions for a fully covered car.

Less expensive options are available, varying from semi-covered cars to one-way window graphics. Some companies also offer advertising on non-rotating hub caps.

Advertising on Trucks

Advertising on lorries and trucks usually involves placing an advertising message on the side or back of the truck. Some companies also offer part advertising on the back of a lorry.

The cost of this form of advertising tends to cost around 50% less than traditional outdoor advertising. It’s an effective way of targeting motorway audiences, where billboards are often not allowed.

The only downside is that advertising messages on lorries is a normal occurrence so this form of advertising doesn’t tend to attract the same buzz and as a consequence can be quickly forgotten by consumers.

Advertising on Ad Vans

Ad vans can be used to target motorists but are also very effective when used as a flexible billboard, with the ad van able to be placed in ideal locations, for example to drive visitors to a local event.

Smaller ad bikes can also be hired - these are used to target consumers in pedestrian-only areas.

In terms of the cost, both ad vans and bikes tend to cost in the region of £300 per day, with discounts available for longer term use.

Advertising on Taxis

This is a more traditional form of vehicle advertising. Prices vary depending on the number of taxis advertised, the length of the campaign, and whether the taxis are fully covered.

As an example, a fully covered taxi costs around £4,00...

Taxi Advertising - The Most Popular Form of Vehicle Advertising

A more common form of vehicle advertising is advertising on taxis. This involves total or part covering of a taxi in an advertisement.

Why advertise on taxis?

  • Research shows that taxis spend more than 90% of their time in town and city centres.

  • Each taxi is on the road for an average of 8 hours a day.

  • There’s no need to worry about your advertising not looking clear or fresh - legal requirements ensure that taxis are always kept in excellent condition.

  • Excellent reach - advertising in city centres can be difficult due to the limited number of billboards. Taxis offer a way around this.

  • Direct contact - many taxi advertising campaigns include leaflets being available to passengers in the taxis themselves. With the average taxi ride taking 15 minutes many people will end up reading about your company.

  • If you’re holding a promotional event having guests collected by taxis bearing your company advertising provides an excellent first impression.

In addition to the above reasons, taxi advertising is also an extremely targeted advertising medium, particularly compared to advertising on cars, because the licensing laws state that taxi drivers cannot pick up people outside of their registered borough.

Evaluating the Likely Effectiveness of a Campaign

Flexibility is possible as campaigns can vary from one month to one year, and you can choose to just advertise on one or two taxis if you have a small budget. However the e...

The Types of Vehicle Advertising

Vehicle advertising, also known as wrap advertising, is the practice of covering part or the whole of a vehicle with an advertisement. It can be done through painting a vehicle but it’s much more common to use vinyl sheets as decals, enabling advertisements to be changed frequently at a low cost.
What can you advertise on?
  • Cars
  • Trucks and Lorries
  • Ad Vans
  • Taxis

Advertising on Cars

“If you are looking for the next great place to advertise, well, look no further than your garage. Cars will be transformed into the next amazing advertising medium of the decade!” Jesse Kalisher, Brandweek
At one point advertising on cars was seen to be the next big advertising medium. This expectation does not look like it will be fulfilled but advertising on cars can still be an effective way to reach a very large audience.
Advertising on cars delivers your message to a mass audience, creates a buzz factor, and can be very cost effective as illustrated by AdsonCars data from independent 3M statistics, especially when you consider that the figures exclude views from pedestrians:
Advertising Medium
Cost per Thousand Impressions (CPM)
Direct Mail (Shared Mailing)
Online Banner Advertising
Advertising on Cars
The figures do of course not mention details of the quality and effectiveness of each advertising medium. Direct mail is excellent at generating an action from customers, whilst TV and radio advertising enables messages to be clearly portrayed.
Advertising on cars doesn’t tend to encourage those who see it to take action and the message that can be portrayed is limited due to the fact that many people will only glance at the advertisement. However, in terms of what it does it is very effective – reaching large numbers of people at a very low cost.

Trucks and Lorry Advertising

As an alternative to advertising on cars you can reach motorists through advertising on trucks and lorries. Trucks are always on the move and are an excellent way to advertise on the UK motorway network where there are restrictions on billboard advertising.
Compared to advertising on cars truck advertising holds an advantage in that there is a larger advertising space so more precise and effective messages can be portrayed.
Trucks are also constantly on the move, as opposed to cars which are usually used for a maximum of a couple of hours per day. They are also usually fitted with tracking devises so you can see exactly where they go and when, very helpful when it comes to tracking and evaluating the campaign.
However, advertising on cars is seen as something different ...
